Have you ever wanted a faster way to reference specific activities instead of using their unique identifiers in Primavera P6 Professional? Large projects with a complex Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and long activity IDs can be difficult to navigate.
Figure 1 shows the typical Activity Table with the WBS heading bands showing the WBS title, code and name. As well as the individual Activity IDs and names listed as each row in white in the table. Large projects with intricate IDs causes miscommunication amongst project team members referring to a specific task or area of the project.
The quick solution is a ‘column’ in Primavera called Line Numbers. A schedule can easily be reviewed with project managers by referring to a row number instead of their unique identifiers.
How to show line numbers
Open the project and navigate to the activities window. On the Menu Bar, click View to expand it. Select Line Numbers as shown in Figure 2.
Figure 3 below shows the Line Number labels as an additional column on the left side of the Activity Table.
Summary
Projects can get complicated with unique WBS and Activity IDs. The time to review project schedules can be sped up amongst colleagues by being able to reference simple line numbers instead.
